Facebook Live rescheduled for 2 p.m today on police shootings and the mentally ill

Patriot-News - 10/2/2020

The Facebook Live discussion with Sharon Engdahl, executive director of the American Mental Wellness Association and the Mental Wellness Awareness Association (Pennsylvania), has been rescheduled to 2 p.m. today following technical issues that prevented the Facebook Live discussion Thursday.

Engdahl and health professionals are alarmed at continuing police killings of people with mental illness. And Black Lives Matter protesters have called for “defunding” policing, transferring some of their duties and funding to programs that address mental illness in our communities.

Police killed Ricardo Munos, who suffered from schizophrenia and paranoia, last month in his Lancaster home, and his mother questioned whether they could have used less deadly means to control his aggression.

Engdahl will appear today on “Live on PennLive with Joyce Davis” to discuss a new “Rapid Response Plan for America’s Broken Mental Health System,” that her organizations are supporting to address the problem and to provide Pennsylvania lawmakers a plan to help prevent future tragedies.

Bring your respectful questions and comments to today’s Facebook Live.
