Falls schools to receive $2.5M for mental health services

Oct. 8--A federal grant will help the Niagara Falls City School District provide mental health services to its students.
U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Buffalo/Niagara Falls, announced Monday that the public school system will receive nearly $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Education over the next five years.
The funds will be devoted to:
--Additional mental health resources in the schools.
--An increase in community and family outreach services.
--Training for teachers to help them identify mental health needs early.
--An expansion of the the "pipeline of mental health professionals into the school setting to reduce shortages."
A press conference announcing the allocation will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
